Lighthouse Foundation offers an integrated therapeutic model of care for homeless children and young people who predominantly come from a background of long-term neglect and abuse. In a Lighthouse home, children, young people and families are supported by Therapeutic Carers as well as specialist services including case management and psychological support.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The primary purpose of this position is to provide casework support, participate in home management and supervise children and young people. You will act as a positive role model for the young people living in the home. This is a highly rewarding position where you play an integral part in a community that brings positive change to a young person’s life. You will be supported by the Senior Care Team and the multi-disciplinary clinical team based at our Youth Resource and Administration Centre in Richmond.

Essential requirements

  • Hold a minimum Certificate IV in Welfare, Family Therapy, Social Work, Youth Work, Psychology or a strongly related discipline
  • Upon employment, be willing to complete 4 days mandatory up-skill training
  • Availability to work a varied roster, including weekends
  • The ability to work closely with children and young people, and have knowledge of the special needs of homeless and at-risk young people
  • Hold/obtain a current Working with Children Check
  • Complete a National Criminal Records check, Disqualified Carer check, and undergo an in-house psycho-social screen
  • Hold a current driver's license

Desirable for the role

  • Experience with conflict resolution and mediation
  • Hold critical response skills to youth-based crisis situations, including practical and psychiatric emergencies
  • Have an ability to identify and assess suicide/self-harm risks and understand the strategies to manage these risks
