Remote / Work from Home
Established on 20 September 2021, League of Latin American Migrants Australia (LLAMA INCORPORATED) is a not-for-profit organisation based in Melbourne which provides free English online sessions for the Spanish-speaking community in Australia. The free classes are also open to Latinos overseas who are considering coming to Australia in the future, but would like to improve their English first. In addition to free English classes, LLAMA provides informative free workshops and social activities for the Latin community in Australia.
LLAMA’s mission is to help international students, migrants, and the established members of Australia's Latin American community to integrate into Australian society through free online English classes and by familiarising Latinos with Australian culture.
LLAMA is a new organisation and growing quickly. Classes have begun and we will be launching our website and social media pages shortly. We are recruiting volunteer English teachers to expand the number and range of our classes.
LLAMA runs different kinds of online English classes from basic to advanced level, 5 days a week from Monday to Friday at different hours from 8:00 am to 8:30 pm Melbourne time via Zoom. Classes are grouped by:
Each session lasts an hour and a half, delivered in a friendly setting without the pressure of being in a classroom. This allows participants to share their experiences with other people who are in the same situation. Group sizes ranges from 5 to 20 individuals. Students are assigned to you, so there is no need to build up your own student base.
The role of the online English teacher is to provide free English language support to adult migrants between 18 and 65 years old from Spanish/Portuguese background. It is an opportunity to contribute to the development of the curriculum for the various classes.
To participate as an English teacher volunteer, you must have a teaching background.
We are seeking people with a Spanish speaking / Latin background, or an Australian background—to help students to be more familiar with the Australian accent and to help them understand Australian idioms.
LLAMA has a flexible schedule; you can join one class per week (an hour and a half weekly volunteer commitment) or as many classes as you want. You will choose the English student level of class you feel more comfortable with.
Come and be a part of the exciting and vibrant Latino community. This is a great opportunity for trainee teachers to get experience in a fun and casual environment, and for teachers who are interested in engaging with the culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) community or in developing skills in adult education or in teaching English as Additional Language (EAL).
