The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation (SAKGF) introduces pleasurable food education to children during their learning years in order to form positive food habits for life. The Foundation has been successful in providing the inspiration, information, professional development, and support for institutions to deliver pleasurable food education programs, with sustainable results.

SAKGF is seeking a General Manager to lead and manage the delivery of a significant, exciting new healthy eating community engagement project, then oversee its operations for the duration of its lifecycle. The role will report to the CEO and sit on the SAKGF management team.

This role will oversee a team of 19 newly appointed staff who are working at either the Collingwood office or remotely across regional Victoria. Some regional travel will be an expectation of this role.

Your key accountabilities and deliverables will include:

  • Planning, implementation and delivery of the Healthy Kids Advisors initiative into target communities adhering to schedule, budget and key deliverables.
  • Working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to provide project management expertise, communications, governance, and ensuring any risks and issues associated with the project are identified and effectively managed.
  • Recruit and lead a skilled head office and remotely located frontline team, with focus on building a positive team dynamic and cultural integration with SAKGF.
  • Contract ownership and risk management.
  • Establish an Advisory Committee of representatives from key government and agency partners.
  • Develop and nurture strategic collaborative relationships and partnerships, both internally and externally.
  • Maintain oversight of the project budget, ensuring no cost overrun.
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting requirements to the Department of Health, project Advisory Committee and the SAKGF CEO and Board.
  • Maintain operational oversight while remaining faithful to the long-term objective of sustainable project deliverables within each targeted community.
  • Ongoing evaluation based on data and feedback and adapting project execution as required.
  • Ensure project alignment with SAKGF vision

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, innovative leader and mentor who enjoys developing a team, with exceptional stakeholder/partnership relationship development capabilities and excellent written and verbal communication skills. They will have an ability to engage audiences at all levels, as well as a track record of successful project management, execution, budgetary control, evaluation, and continuous improvement.

Tertiary qualifications in management, public health, communications and/or significant experience in senior leadership and project management in the non-profit sector is essential, as is demonstrated experience liaising with all levels of government. Experience in public health/health promotion/food education and previous experience leading and motivating remote teams is an advantage but not essential.
