The Opportunity

Our Community Development program is a passionate team of professionals dedicated to empowering, supporting and sustaining a connected, healthy and inclusive community. The First Nations Community Development Officer will lead the development and implementation of Council's Reconciliation Action Plan and work with First Nations and non-First Nations individuals, groups, organisations and internal stakeholders to deliver collaborative community development initiatives.

In this role you will use your leadership and facilitation skills to create meaningful partnerships and co-create solutions to community challenges and opportunities.

About you

We are looking for an experienced professional with the following characteristics:

  • Extensive experience in community development and achieving outcomes with and for First Nations Australians within a government context
  • Experience building and maintaining professional and productive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including First Nations Elders, organisations and residents, as well as senior leaders in government
  • Ability to facilitate multi-stakeholder groups to create and drive shared solutions
  • Capable of navigating government processes to co-create strategies and policies that progress the aspirations of First Nations Australians
  • An excellent communicator - knowing how to tailor different communications to your audience
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions and manage multiple tasks at a time

The incumbent must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent as a genuine occupational requirement of the role in accordance with section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and s 25 and s 105 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld). Applicants will be required to supply a letter of Aboriginality signed under the common seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation.
