Position summary

Lou's Place is a daytime refuge for women based in Redfern. A part of the community since 1999, our mission is to provide a safe and welcoming place for women, meeting them at their point of need and supporting them in rebuilding their lives.

As the Intake and Administration Support officer you will work as part of a team of six full time staff and over fifty volunteers to provide assistance to the women who use Lou’s Place.

The intake and administration officer is the first point of contact for women who access Lou’s Place. The position also supports the organisation by being the primary contact who coordinates all the front of house needs including providing administration support to the team at Lou’s.

Key responsibilities

  • Front desk management including: monitoring front door and opening door to women after performing a risk assessment; conducting face to face assessments to determine immediate needs of women presenting to the service; intakes; internal and external referrals including appointments with case workers, assistance with accommodation, etc. and making relevant and regular entries in case files;
  • Oversee interactions between women accessing Lou’s Place to ensure that the environment within the house remains calm and harmonious, including diffusing complex and difficult situations before they escalate; monitoring numbers of women in the building;
  • Work as part of a team to deliver services at Lou’s Place; including developing good working relationships with other staff members, volunteers and external service providers (e.g: other service providers, government agencies);
  • Complete administrative duties to support efficiency of the service operate service,

Selection criteria

  • Minimum certificate IV in community services/mental health/social science or equivalent experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of, and passion for working with women with a lived experience of mental health issues and/or drug and alcohol dependencies
  • Ability to handle competing priorities
  • Good planning, organising and evaluating skills
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy with competence in Word and Excel
