Lock the Gate is seeking a Federal advocacy coordinator to lead our engagement with Federal MP's and Senators, support opportunities for regional communities to engage directly with Federal politicians and assist our national campaign work.
We’re looking for someone creative, responsive and conscientious who enjoys working with people from varied backgrounds and experiences and tackling complex problems with cooperation.
Join us and help local communities tackle the biggest threats in the country and seize the exciting opportunities that are available in diversification and renewables.
Lock the Gate is a national grassroots organisation made up of over 120,000 supporters and many local groups who are concerned about risky coal mining, coal seam gas and fracking. These groups are located in all parts of Australia and include farmers, First Nations Peoples, conservationists and urban residents.
The world is moving away from fossil fuels through a combination of legislated climate action and shifting investment priorities. At this crucial juncture, Lock the Gate’s fight to support communities under threat from coal and gas developments is more important than ever. Local communities want long-term investment in renewable and other opportunities that don’t put land, water and climate at risk.
The recent Federal election has created potential new opportunities to secure positive policy outcomes for grassroots communities fighting coal and gas projects including:
However these won’t be achieved without a combination of dedicated political engagement and community pressure.
Even if you don’t have all the skills required, we’d still love to hear from you. If any of these criteria speak to you, you could be the perfect person for the job. Formal education, qualifications and extensive experience matter less to us than commitment, values and initiative.
Lock the Gate is an equal opportunity employer. Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.
This is a Full time, 12 month employment contract with the possibility of extension. Ideally the successful person will be Canberra based but Sydney is also an option.
Please contact John Russell at firstname.lastname@example.org, using the subject line: Federal Advocacy Coordinator enquiry via EthicalJobs, if you have any questions.
