MRC was established in 2008 and its area covers our 13 major remote communities as well as many outstations. MRC employs over 500 staff, 370 of whom are the local Aboriginal staff.

The role:

As Work Health and Safety Officer you will support the development and implementation of WHS system to ensure compliance with WHS legislative requirements. You will also assist the WHS Coordinator with providing advice to all levels of staff regarding WHS, including the development and facilitation of toolbox talks.

Key duties:

  • Provide high level administrative support and front-line WHS advice that supports the effective operation of the WHS function
  • Record, track and report on incident reporting including providing support to managers related to corrective actions
  • Assist in the coordination and delivery of core WHS training such as induction, first aid, warden, 4WD and other compliance or WHS system training; deliver training as required and where skilled to do so
  • Maintain WHS records and WHS system support tools

Skills and experience:

  • Ability to interpret WHS legislation, regulations, codes of practice and Australian Standards
  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal / external clients
  • Ability to work autonomously and within broader team
  • Lateral thinking and the ability to take initiative

In addition to a strong interest in working with Indigenous people on their country, it is also essential that you have an appreciation of contemporary Aboriginal issues, especially in relation to cultural and socio-economic challenges in remote central Australia. Any prior experience working with Aboriginal people in remote areas will be highly regarded.
