Mackay Conservation Group was established in 1984 and is the lead environmental organisation in the Mackay-Isaac-Whitsunday region of Central Queensland. We have campaigned for protection of woodlands, rainforests, oceans and our rivers for more than 35 years. In 2020 we will be working on two campaigns: preventing pollution caused by burning coal and maintaining and restoring the rivers that flow to the Great Barrier Reef.
Mackay Conservation Group is located in the heart of coal country. The Bowen and Galilee coal basins are located west of Mackay and several of the world’s largest coal ports are located north and south of Mackay. We have taken a leading role in the campaign to end the destructive climate effects of coal mining and burning.
