This is a Permanent Full-Time opportunity based in Footscray, VIC within our Carer Recruitment and Development Team, Metro East Program.

About the Role:

The Foster Carer Assessor and Trainer (Carer Recruitment and Development Worker) is a specialist role within MacKillop’s Child, Youth and Families stream. The position’s main functions include recruitment, assessment and training of Foster Carers.

This role offers a growth opportunity to professionals who have been working within Foster Care programs and have a passion for working with foster carers, leading training sessions, have developed assessment skills and engaging the community, raising awareness for more foster carers in Victoria.

This role also offers flexible working conditions.

Key Selection Criteria:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families
  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in Social Work, Children’s Services, Welfare Services or equivalent.
  • Sound professional knowledge and theory base particularly in the areas of trauma, attachment and therapeutic care and assessment and training.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff and building effective teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and meeting KPI’s while working under pressure (exceptional organisational and administration skills).
  • Able to work effectively with a wide range of diverse people, including stakeholders
  • High levels of computer literacy – MS Office and databases.
  • Ability to work collaboratively at program, organisational and sector levels.
  • A commitment to the mission and values of MacKillop Family Services.

Other criteria not essential but desirable:

  • Shared Lives Victoria – Trained Facilitator
  • Step by Step Victoria registered Assessor

You must have a:

  • Proof of vaccination (including third dose) against Covid-19
  • Valid and current Driver’s Licence;
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check;
  • Valid Working with Children Check;
  • Valid and current NDIS Workers Screening Check

The Australian Government recently introduced the NDIS Worker Screening Check, an additional, national legislated compliance requirement to determine if a person is cleared to work with people with disability. MacKillop requires all client facing staff obtain the NDIS Worker Screening Check.
