Due to significant growth that has resulted in a restructuring of Positions of Leadership (POLs) within the school, MacKillop Education Geelong is seeking driven and motivated leaders and educators, who are passionate about providing equity and access to education to vulnerable students, many of whom have experienced complex trauma. POLs are a two-year appointment, in addition to an ongoing Generalist Teacher role.

In addition to the roles and responsibilities as a key teacher, the Learning and Teaching Team Leader will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • To participate in Local Leadership Team meetings, organised and chaired by the Principal.
  • To support the implementation of the school’s Strategic Plan and Learning & Teaching Plan.
  • To support a systematic and explicit approach to Learning and Teaching development.
  • To provide targeted Learning and Teaching intervention, across all year levels, with a particular focus on literacy and numeracy, to students at risk (individual or small group).
  • In collaboration with Deputy Principal and Literacy Leader, determine planning and implementation strategies in relation to curriculum for primary and secondary, as well as lead the implementation of assessment and reporting provision.
  • In collaboration with the Deputy Principal and Literacy Leader, to develop a whole school Learning & Teaching professional development program.
  • To support the evaluation of the school’s Learning & Teaching plan through the development of effective curriculum documentation.
  • To enhance the capacity of staff to implement, monitor and review targeted Learning & Teaching interventions, with a particular focus on literacy and numeracy.
  • To disseminate information to teachers regarding developments in best practice Learning & Teaching interventions, with a particular focus on literacy and numeracy.
  • To develop goals for the POL at the start of each year, in line with the school’s Annual Action Plan and in collaboration with Deputy Principal and Literacy Leader.
  • To provide bi-annual Reports (at the end of Semesters 1 and 2) to the Local Leadership Team
  • To provide front line support and supervision, coaching and mentoring.

Learning & Teaching Team Leader Key Selection Criteria:

  • SC1: Demonstrated outstanding leadership skills, including a commitment to trauma-informed practice and an ability to lead colleagues to improve their Learning & Teaching intervention skills.
  • SC2: Demonstrated outstanding ability to successfully support the implementation and evaluation of the school’s Learning & Teaching intervention program – literacy and numeracy.
  • SC3: Demonstrated outstanding trauma-informed classroom teaching skills and capacity to model High Impact Teaching Strategies in the classroom.
  • SC4: Demonstrated outstanding ability to monitor and assess Learning & Teaching data at the individual, cohort and whole school level and to use this data to inform teaching for improved student learning.
  • SC5: Demonstrated outstanding written and verbal communication skills and high-level interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain respectful and collaborative relationships.
  • SC6: Demonstrated capacity to reflect critically upon their own professional practice and apply the knowledge, skills and expertise derived from ongoing professional learning to enable the further development of others’ professional practice (Learning & Teaching focus)

You must have a:

  • Valid and current Driver’s Licence;
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check;
  • Valid Working with Children Check;
  • Valid and current NDIS Workers Screening Check or can provide proof of application up to 31 July 2021.

This is a 2-year POL 1 appointment and will commence in January 2022 – January 2024.

The Australian Government recently introduced the NDIS Worker Screening Check, an additional, national legislated compliance requirement to determine if a person is cleared to work with people with disability.
