Marymead is a well-respected, community based, not-for-profit organisation that has provided a range of support services to children, young people and their families since 1967. Marymead now operates throughout the southern and western regional areas of NSW as well as the ACT with offices in Goulburn, Wagga Wagga, Young, Moruya and Canberra. Marymead is seeking to fill the positions outlined below.

About the position

As a Student and Family Wellbeing Practitioner, you will use attachment-informed, strength and relationship-based approaches to work with students and families in a school setting. Further, you will work with the broader school community to foster a trauma informed approach to student welfare in the context of the whole family. The program will provide a flexible model of service which may include short term or on-going individual and family counselling, parenting support and intervention, supported referrals to external services, group work and participation in case meetings and pastoral reviews.

The Student and Family Wellbeing Practitioner will be primarily based in one of three schools in the ACT and Queanbeyan, NSW. The practitioner works directly with children and their families, as well the broader school community. We currently have multiple on a 12 month contract with the possibility of extension as each school has differing needs. Clinical supervision and line management will be provided at Marymead's head office in Narrabundah. Please note, the Student and Family Wellbeing Practitioner will continue offering a service during school holidays, providing outreach from the Narrabundah office.

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Tertiary qualification in social work, psychology or counselling
  • Eligibility for (or working towards) membership with one of the following AHPRA, AASW, PACFA, ACA
  • Experience working in a school setting, family counselling qualifications or Circle of Security Parenting training will be highly regarded
