About Marymead

An exciting new partnership has been formed between Marymead and the Conflict Resolution Service (CRS) to deliver The Safe and Connected Youth (SACY) program. The Safe and Connected Youth Program will work therapeutically with young people (8-15 yrs) and their families to resolve conflict and improve family functioning to reduce the risk of youth homelessness in the ACT.

Through this partnership with CRS, Marymead will be delivering the Therapeutic Respite Accommodation element of the program through the Ruby’s model based in a six-bedroom facility in Waramanga. Marymead are now looking for multiple Youth Workers for casual positions to join the team.

About the Youth Worker (Safe and Connected Youth) positions

As a Youth Worker, you will report directly to the Team Leader and work as part of a collaborative team to engage with young people and their families within a therapeutic, strengths-based approach in a caring and supportive environment.

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • Engaging with young people and family members in line with the Ruby’s Principles, Theories & Key Practices, ensuring a constructive environment where positive change can be facilitated
  • Supporting and guiding all young people while on shift
  • Developing and facilitating activities for young people that will enhance their living skills and help them achieve their goals
  • Maintaining contact with young people’s parents/carers
  • You will act as a Key Worker with assigned young people by:
    • Working with Young People, the Counsellor and Team Leader to determine their goals;
    • Advocating for the young people, as required;
    • Conducting weekly case work sessions;
    • Maintaining regular contact with their parents;
    • Organise celebrations, positive records, and marking rites of passage for young people as per the Ruby’s Service Model
  • Facilitating harmonious relationships by modelling appropriate behaviour
  • Assisting young people to comply with house rules
  • Resolving conflict by using a conciliation process and escalating matters to the Team Leader, as required

To be successful for this role you will possess the following qualifications, skills and experience

  • Certificate IV in Youth Work or the equivalent
  • Manual Handling Category 1, or willing to undertake prior to role commencement
  • National Police Check
  • Working with Vulnerable People Clearance (ACT)
  • Unrestricted Driver’s Licence
