The Opportunity:

An opportunity exists for highly motivated Research Officer/Senior Research Officer (Postdoctoral Scientist), to join the Heart Regeneration Group a multidisciplinary research group working on therapeutic development for childhood heart disease. The applicant will have the opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team using human pluripotent stem cell and animal models to understand the causes of, and develop innovative treatments for, childhood heart diseases. Successful applicants will be expected to design and conduct research experiments, develop independent lines of investigation, supervise junior team members and prepare results for publication. Multiple positions available across a number of projects, specific projects will be developed in consultation with successful applicant in line with their expertise, skills, interests and career goals.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collecting of high-quality data and data analysis.
  • General laboratory organisation and maintenance.
  • Conducting continuous maintenance of neat and orderly records, lab books and data storage
  • Designing and conducting experiments independently.
  • Administrative research duties including the preparation of Ethics Committee applications and reports.
  • Contributing to the preparation of research proposal submissions to internal and external funding agencies.
  • Preparing manuscripts and making contributions to external journal and grant reviews.
  • Making significant and/or independent contributions to grant submissions and publications including lead authorship.
  • Fostering relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engaging in the campus culture including professional development activities, membership of campus committees and contributing to/attending internal/external campus conferences and seminars.
  • Conducting ethical research at the highest level of integrity and in line with the Australian Code for Responsible Conduct of Research and MCRI policies.
  • Conducting research activities in alignment with the strategic direction of the Institute.

Selection Criteria:

  • Relevant PhD/Doctoral qualification.
  • Potential to be competitive for own funding.
  • Building a reputation at a National level as an outstanding researcher and is working towards building an international reputation.
  • Track record in research leadership and/or knowledge translation including publications and/or patents.
  • Evidence of high quality research outputs and impact as evidenced by publication records (including first author publications), conference attendance and participation.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Advanced communication, presentation and writing skills.
  • Evidence of an ability to lead and mentor employees in order to foster a positive scientific research culture (relative to opportunity).
  • Education and supervision of future researchers and successful higher degree student completions (relative to opportunity).
