The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Project Manager to join the Centre of Population of Genomics. The Centre for Population Genomics is a collaborative initiative of MCRI in Melbourne and the Garvan Institute of Medical Research (Garvan) in Sydney. The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional with proven success in research project management and who is exceptionally organised with a passion for operational efficiency, meticulous attention to detail, and proven experience in coordinating with multiple stakeholders within varying spheres of influence.

You will be responsible for planning, monitoring and ensuring the successful delivery of genomic medicine projects, processes and workflows within the Centre’s Rare Disease Genomics domain, with oversight from the Project Management Lead and in collaboration with other CPG team members. You will also be responsible for leading and coordinating the project management of a large-scale genomic reanalysis program focusing on increasing rare disease diagnoses.

In this role you will manage at least one direct report from the outset, with opportunities to take on increasing responsibility including driving key Centre-wide initiatives through progression within the team structure and delegation to other staff within the Project Management Team.

This role will start on a three-year full-time contract with a high possibility to extend and will be located in Melbourne or Sydney with potential for flexibility. The Senior Project Manager position is a unique opportunity to play a key part in a Centre that will shape the future of genomic medicine in Australia and build resources with global impact.

Your Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading project management activities within the Rare Disease Genomics domain at CPG, including strategic decision-making, organisational planning and implementing domain and centre-wide process improvements.
  • Leading components of project management of established large-scale genomic reanalysis programs, including managing complex and overlapping program priorities to ensure CPG meets its commitments, with oversight from the Project Management Lead.
  • Managing a direct report by providing oversight and guidance for project management activities related to CPG’s Rare Diseases workflow.
  • Coordinating and contributing to the preparation and content of research applications, and reports by collaboratively engaging with key CPG team members.
  • Managing multiple competing and evolving, individual and project team priorities to ensure no task gets forgotten or unduly deprioritised.

About You

  • Have a passion and enthusiasm for the implementation of genomic medicine.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating with multiple stakeholders within varying spheres of influence.
  • A highly effective written and verbal communicator who is comfortable communicating with both technical and non-technical people/teams at every level, including managing upward.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan workflows, prioritise activities and meet deadlines in an ever-evolving environment.
  • Candidates with background or experience in software development, product management and/or data management will be highly regarded.
