About the role:

Multicultural Australia is currently offering an opportunity for a Residential Youth Support Worker to work as part of our Unaccompanied Humanitarian Minors team. The role is casual and Brisbane based. Hourly rates are inclusive of 25% casual loading.

Multicultural Australia’s UHM Program exists to promote wellbeing, independence, belonging and quality of life for unaccompanied humanitarian minors. We deliver culturally appropriate support to children and young people in a manner, which nurtures aspirations, promotes independent living skills, inspires active citizenship and supports connection with family, peers and communities. Strong, positive relationships are at the core of our work. These relationships, alongside a trauma-informed and child-centred framework allows for healing, growth and the development of independent living skills. Among other duties, the successful candidate will:

  • Supervision and support of children and young people placed within a residential or support service, ensuring that their safety and protection in the service are upheld;
  • Facilitation and assistance to children and young people developing skills and achieving goals, including providing them hygiene, health, nutrition and daily living needs and engaging them in activities that are of both a social and learning opportunity to advance their skills;
  • Transportation and support of children and young people in various activities or appointments that are important to their development and growth;
  • Maintaining a clean and safe living environment (domestic duties);
  • Work a rotating roster including sleepover shifts in the evening, to provide appropriate services for children and young people within the residential program;
  • Maintaining records and residential reports for reporting needs and other relevant information to the case managers or team leader;

What qualifications and skills do I need?

You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and have effective communication and interpersonal skills. As well as having a confident and positive personality, you will possess:

  1. Possession of Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential Care) or equivalent Cert IV qualification;
  2. Relevant experience and skills in working with children and young people with complex needs, from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  3. Ability to work consistently towards individual and organisational goals as an effective member of a team
  4. Good computer proficiency, written ability, time management and organisational skills;
  5. Ability to work a rotating roster including sleepover shifts in the evenings and weekends;
  6. Ability to participate in performing and modelling domestic duties in a residential setting

Successful candidate will be required to have a valid driver’s licence, police check and apply for a Working with Children Blue Card. It is a condition of employment with Multicultural Australia to fulfil all our current and future COVID-19 vaccination requirements.
