About this opportunity

The Contact Centre Mental Health Carer Support Worker is a newly created short term role to provide short-term intensive psychosocial supports for Carers who are living with mental health concerns that have been further impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The objective of the role will be to support carers to access information, support and referrals relevant to their caring role, provide referrals to ongoing or other relevant services to address the holistic wellbeing of the carer, and to engage with socially isolated carers impacted by COVID and Mental health issues to create positive linkages in the community, including face to face and online options.

Reporting to the Team Leader working under limited direction:

  • Creating an environment that Carers will find welcoming, real and inclusive
  • A high level of customer service ensuring carers are listened to with patience and non-judgement. Incorporating the following service principles: Carer Focussed, Practical and Flexible, and Inclusive
  • Intake, Planning and Assessment services to Carers as outlined in the Carer Support Framework, establishing and implement agreed action plans. Focusing on empowering to create changes and meaningful outcomes
  • Assist carers in navigating and accessing mental health services and other allied health services; this is not limited to supporting carers and their care recipients to link to appropriate funding streams, such as NDIS or My Aged Care
  • Develop support relationships with carers that are positive and are built on Wellways values
  • Be able to analyse complex needs in an efficient manner and to provide a solution based support in line with program principles and operational demands

You are an independent, proactive thinker and worker but are also able to follow direction/s given by your managers and can work within a tight-knit team.

What do you need?

  • Qualifications and/or experience working in community services, allied health or carer/family peer positions
  • A current valid Driver's License
  • Appropriate IT skills
  • Right to work in Australia
  • Satisfactory Police Records Check and Working with Children Check, prior to commencement
  • Applicants having experience and knowledge in psychosocial disability will be at an advantage
  • NDIS Orientation Certificate prior to commencement
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Available to participate in out of hours activities as required to undertake the requirements of the role
