Murray Primary Health Network (Murray PHN) has engaged Mildura Base Hospital to deliver a clinical coordination role for TWBSS. Mildura Base Hospital identifies and refers clients for support and provides overarching clinical governance. Wellways provides practical psychosocial support to people experiencing a suicidal crisis or who have attempted suicide. Wellways works in partnership with Murray PHN, Mildura Base Hospital and Beyond Blue to deliver TWBSS in the Sunraysia region.

The primary purpose for The Way Back Support Service - Support Coordinator is to provide non-clinical care and practical supports to individuals.

In particular, Support Coordinators will:

  • Provide support in the first three months following a suicide attempt to help an individual to stay safe and connect with essential services
  • Engage with and deliver safe and effective service to vulnerable groups who are known to be at high risk of suicide
  • Reduce burden on supporting networks, including family and carers by supporting individuals to self-manage distress and increase social connectedness
  • Work collaboratively with existing services (clinical and community based) to meet individual needs and circumstances.

What do you need?

  • Relevant qualifications or commensurate experience in working in a support role for people with mental health conditions
  • Experience in working with people bereaved through suicide or experience in dealing with severe personal trauma
  • An understanding of recovery principles and/or strengths-based principles
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with people from a variety of backgrounds including CALD and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
  • Evidence of the Right to work in Australia
  • Evidence of, or a willingness to undergo a National Police Records Check, Working with Children Check-employment, NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate and NDIS Worker Screening Check clearance
