About the program

StandBy operates nationally by partnering with local organisations, engaging their expertise within the community to deliver the most effective and culturally suitable support following a suicide, for each individual circumstance. Locally tailored community workshops and education programs are provided to increase awareness of suicide and suicide bereavement to help enable communities to support one another.

About the role

The role of the Support Team Worker in the StandBy - ACT/Murrumbidgee team is responsible for the provision of support to those who have been impacted or bereaved through suicide as directed by the StandBy - ACT/Murrumbidgee Coordinator. The Support Team provides direct support to assist individuals and groups who have been impacted by suicide in the ACT/Murrumbidgee region. This role is an on-call position (after hours or weekend work) and may be required to travel for the support work including overnight stays.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Respond with person centered support aligned with the StandBy Model in the ACT/Murrumbidgee region. This may include travel across the region as well as service provision inside/outside normal business hours.
  • Support the StandBy - ACT/Murrumbidgee Coordinator in community development activities which may include assistance at workshops, events and other promotional opportunities.
  • Support the StandBy - ACT/Murrumbidgee Coordinator as relevant. This includes participating in all scheduled communication processes, supervision, team meetings and professional development.
  • Ensure accurate data is recorded and submit support session notes in line with StandBy requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with StandBy service provision requirements.
  • Maintain best practice knowledge and skills relevant to StandBy's support model.
  • Work in a healthy and safe manner and adhere to workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as directed that are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training and the scope of the employee's award classification.

Skills & experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent level of expertise and experience in social science, health or associated disciplines relevant to the requirements of the position.
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is desirable (however preferred applicant will be supported to obtain upon recruitment).
