About the role

Haven; Home, Safe and Mind Australia Limited have formed a consortium to assist people experiencing homelessness to transition from temporary hotel accommodation into housing as part of the Victorian Government’s From Homelessness to a Home (H2H) program.

The H2H initiative is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on homelessness and rough sleeping in Victoria. We have a fixed term 18 month, full time opportunity as an Aboriginal Housing & Recovery Coordinator in the Geelong/ Barwon South West region. Work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with multiple and complex needs to obtain affordable housing, promote health and wellbeing, and work in a holistic way to prevent a return to rough sleeping.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted and integrated case managed responses to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients through flexible outreach.
  • Support clients by delivering high quality service and facilitating positive educational and social experiences.
  • Operate collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and the community to ensure a co-ordinated and integrated response to the client’s recovery goals.
  • Build trust through strengths focused engagement including building relationships with local communities, kinship groups and with elders.
  • Assist clients to reconnect or connect with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and services.

What you’ll bring

  • No minimum qualification required but a Tertiary qualification in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work or other health related field is desirable.
  • Strong experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in mental health and/or homelessness.
  • Understanding of the link between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes, homelessness and mental health.
  • Proven capacity to engage with local communities and elders, clinical providers and key stakeholders.
  • Relevant experience in facilitating group activities for clients experiencing mental ill health.
