About the role

Mind operates Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Short-Term Accommodation services for people with severe and enduring psychosocial disability and often dual disability. SIL residences are staffed 24/7 and funded through NDIS packages, clients are provided with individual supports in a residential setting and within a group when shared learning is seen to be beneficial. Services operate in the context of the local community with a focus on supporting people to achieve their better life goals.

We are seeking an empathetic, resilient Community Mental Health Practitioner - Cultural for a permanent, part time (30 hours per week) opportunity within the new Haven ‘home away from home’ property in the Mooroopna/ Shepparton region. Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, you be integral in delivering person-centred, recovery-oriented supports and ensuring client’s identified goals and aspirations align with their plan.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide targeted and integrated case managed responses to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients with flexible outreach.
  • Deliver high quality services and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
  • Build trust through strengths focused engagement including developing relationships with local communities, kinship groups and elders.
  • Provide consultation to the team and stakeholders to raise awareness of health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Assist clients to reconnect or connect with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and services.

What you’ll bring

  • No qualification is required but a Certificate IV in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work or Occupational Therapy is preferred.
  • Expertise in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with mental health issues who have complex needs and proven experience interacting with local communities, families and carers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with agencies, clinical providers, local communities and elders.
  • Understanding of the link between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes, homelessness and mental health.
