About the role

Mind’s Youth Residential Rehabilitation Service (YRRS) program works to support young people between the ages of 16-21 years to recover from mental illness by providing up to 12 months stay in a supportive therapeutic environment. Focused on a recovery oriented framework, the service offers opportunities to young people for skill development, enhanced social relationships and community access.

We are seeking a resilient, empathetic Community Mental Health Practitioner - Lead Practitioner - Family Engagement for a permanent, full time opportunity in the Townsville area. You will lead and mentor a high-performing team to deliver holistic, person-centred services supporting young people to achieve Mind’s My Better Life plan goals and recovery from mental health challenges.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide support to young people using recovery orientated and Family Inclusive frameworks.
  • Coach the team to provide high quality services and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
  • Build rapport and develop trusted relationships with young people, families and carers.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team offering specialised psychosocial support.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated and integrated response to the client’s recovery goals.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
  • Able to provide a record of Vaccination Preventable Diseases or able to obtain vaccinations against Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken Pox, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B or other diseases as required by our Partnership with QLD Health.
  • Expertise in working with young people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with agencies, clinical providers and key stakeholders.
