About the role

The Youth Residential Rehabilitation Service (YRRS) program works to support young people between the ages of 16-21 years to recover from mental illness by providing up to 12 months stay in a supportive therapeutic environment. Focused on a recovery oriented framework, the service offers opportunities to young people for skill development, enhanced social relationships and community access.

We are seeking self-motivated, empathetic Community Mental Health Practitioners for fixed term, part time (30 hours per week) opportunities to work on a 24/7 rotating roster in the Townsville area. You will support young people to develop their life skills to enable recovery from mental health challenges and deliver person-centred services to clients, families and carers.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide support to young people using targeted and integrated case managed responses.
  • Deliver high quality services and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team offering specialised psychosocial support.
  • Plan and deliver group programs that aid young people to build their skills and focus on recovery.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to the client’s recovery goals.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or other health-related field.
  • Able to provide a record of Vaccination Preventable Diseases or able to obtain vaccinations against Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken Pox, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B or other diseases as required by our Partnership with QLD Health.
  • Expertise in working with young people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders.
