About the role

The Way Back Support (WBS) service is a non-clinical support service focused on providing practical psychosocial support to people experiencing a suicidal crisis or who have attempted suicide. The service supports at risk clients to stay safe, builds capacity of individuals to self-manage distress, improves mental wellbeing, and promotes links with support networks as well as clinical and community services to meet individual needs.

We are seeking a passionate, motivated Support Coordinator for a permanent, part time opportunity (3 days per week) to work with the close knit WBS team in the Bendigo area. You will be responsible for providing non-clinical care and psychosocial support for clients following a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis to ultimately reduce the risk of suicide attempts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide supports to clients, coordinate services and assist with recovery-based interventions.
  • Deliver high quality service and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team offering specialised psychosocial support.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated and integrated response to the client’s recovery goals.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
  • Experience working with people with mental health issues, suicidal ideations and attempt, complex needs and with families and carers.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers and key stakeholders.
  • Proven capability to work autonomously and as part of a person centred team.
