Your Opportunity

Key Leadership opportunity to manage this high performance Business Development team, ensuring Mission Australia wins opportunities that align with the organisation’s 20/25 Strategy with funding from governments, Trusts and Foundations. The position holder will also contribute to the broader organisation as a member of Mission Australia’s senior leadership group.

The role will be a mixture of proactive and reactive Business Development work in collaboration with service delivery leaders, to meet organisational budget and strategy requirements.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Scope and develop proactive market-led new business opportunities that align with Mission Australia’s 20/25 Strategy.
  • Lead, guide and mentor a team of 9 staff including a Lead Bid Manager, Team Coordinator, Tender Writers and a Trust and Foundations Officer.
  • Shape the Mission Australia portfolio by ensuring an alignment to core capabilities, producing consistently high quality proposals and maintaining high win rates.
  • Analyse and report key metrics to various stakeholders including the MA Board and Executive Committee.
  • Conduct market scans of the external environment to identify areas of unmet need in the community.
  • Alongside other leaders, represent the Mission Australia to governments and other funders and community stakeholders.
  • Manage a diverse range of of internal and external relationships.
  • Provide representation at industry network forums and meetings.
  • Collaborate with other Mission Australia functions to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements for success:

  • Extensive business development experience ideally gained in a corporate business setting
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in people management, mentoring and leading high performance teams  
  • Experience in managing a large variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Extensive commercial and financial acumen, including ability to assess the financial viability of potential opportunities
  • Understanding of the current and emerging government funding environment for community services, or ability to rapidly understand this context
  • Strong personal alignment with the Mission Australia Values and Culture
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualifications, ideally at MBA level
