Your Opportunity

This position is responsible for leading service delivery teams overseeing various programs and services aimed at strengthening communities in the Cairns South region. We are seeking a passionate leader who can drive change through collaboration and collective impact, and lead the strategic direction of our Strengthening Communities programs over the next 5-10 years. 

Based within the heart of the Cairns South Community at Hambledon House, you will lead a small focused team of 11 staff across 6 programs under our Strengthening Communities portfolio. You will drive continuous improvement in services across the region and be the backbone support for the Cairns South Together coalition.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Oversee the performance of operations and contract delivery in South Cairns
  • Drive a strong team and collaborative culture within the Strengthening Communities management team
  • Effective people management practices including performance tracking, development and coaching of staff
  • Identify areas of opportunity for the development of services in the area, in the context of existing portfolio and national strategy
  • Support the Regional Leader in contract negotiations
  • Oversee the preparation and monitoring of operational budgets for services and reporting
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and represent Mission Australia as part of the Cairns Coalition.

Requirements for Success

  • Experience and knowledge in working within the Cairns South region and understanding of the Cairns coalition
  • Tertiary Qualification (Management, or similar) highly regarded
  • Previous management experience preferably in community services or disability services
  • Experience in people management and professional development of others
  • Experience in managing stakeholder relationships, including government stakeholders
  • Previous experience contributing to marketing and communications strategies that promote positive awareness of the program
  • The ability to interpret complex funding agreements
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver business outcomes on time and within budget
  • Demonstrated interest in community and social outcomes
  • Evidence of full Covid 19 vaccination
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and CALD Communities is encouraged
