SECASA attracts candidates who understand sexual assault and family violence as a human rights issue, and have experience working with complex interpersonal trauma. SECASA Counsellor/Advocates work collaboratively with clients to support empowerment, safety, recovery and justice seeking. The position is responsible for delivering high-quality counselling and advocacy to victim survivors of sexual assault and family violence, using frameworks of intersectionality, trauma focussed interventions, gender equality and a human rights based approach.

About SECASA

The South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence (SECASA) provides sexual assault and family violence therapeutic support and advocacy across nine locations within south eastern metropolitan region of Melbourne. SECASA delivers a wide range of services including individual and group counselling, advocacy, crisis support, and community education prioritising the empowerment of victim survivors.

About the role:

SECASA Counsellor/Advocates

  • Provide high quality therapeutic interventions for children, young people and adults who have experienced sexual assault and/or family violence, including individual counselling, advocacy, and group work
  • Provide crisis support for people who have recently experienced or disclosed sexual assault, including on SECASA’s After Hours Sexual Assault Crisis Response roster
  • Conduct risk assessments, and work collaboratively with clients and key agencies to enhance safety and wellbeing
  • Mentoring and/or supervision of students and staff as required and consistent with the relevant certified agreement
  • Provision of community and professional education

About you:

  • Are you a social worker with a minimum of 2 years post qualifying experience?
  • Have you worked with complex trauma, using frameworks of intersectionality, gender equality and a human rights based approach?
  • Are you an excellent communicator, committed to collaborative work and contributing to a dynamic and resilient team?
  • Are you passionate about delivering high quality counselling support and advocacy for people who have experienced sexual assault and family violence?

What you need

  • Eligibility for AASW membership including continuing professional education
  • Experience in working with people who have experienced complex trauma related to sexual assault and/or family violence
  • High quality risk assessment and safety planning skills
  • Experience in working collaboratively with key agencies to advocate for clients
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A commitment to contributing to a resilient team.
