This exciting part-time position is split across Balarinji (Commercial) and Moriarty Foundation (NFP). You are a skilled strategic thinker who will take ultimate responsibility for the management of our commercial and not-for-profit business financials, whilst being accountable for all financial systems and their interface with executive, management, and operations. You will instigate, enhance and implement systems and technologies to ensure robust risk management and financial reporting infrastructure is in place.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director/Co-Founder of Balarinji and (Hon) Moriarty Foundation, you will manage, develop, expand and implement the organisations’ financial planning, accounting, taxation, forecasting, costing, legal (financial), deal, and data analysis and negotiation advice, results, sponsor (financial) relationships, owners private finances, and organisational (financial) compliance.

You will take a strategic, integrated view of the nexus between finance and core business accountabilities of the organisations, in order to provide financial management and advice across our teams.

This position manages two established finance staff members working across Balarinji and Moriarty Foundation. You will interface with the organisations’ external tax accountants and auditor.

Position Qualification & Experience Requirements:

  • Degree qualified Chartered Accountant with a minimum of 7 years experience as an accountant in both a commercial SME environment and a mid-tier accounting firm
  • 5+ years minimum full financial management responsibility for a specific commercial SME, with experience in an NFP desired.
  • 3+ years experience as a senior manager of 3+ staff in a commercial SME
  • Experience in strategic business-oriented accounting
  • IT proficiency across current financial management software, together with high-level proficiency in MS Office on Mac Platform, primarily Excel and Word
  • A proactive, agile, team-conscious attitude, with excellent attention to detail and the desire to find solutions and achieve results.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment within a small team.

Key Duties

Risk Management & Reporting:

  • Governance & Compliance
  • HR – External engagement, overseeing the process and implementation of company policies & procedures across both organisations
  • External engagement regarding legal and insurance
  • Management Reporting, audit and taxation
  • Project performance and profitability analysis
  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual business reporting
  • Financial reporting for NFP Annual Report

Staff Management:

  • WIP & workflow management across two finance staff
  • Development, training, and up-skilling of existing finance staff
  • Staff and Associate contract advice, review, and financial sign-off

Operations:

  • Cash flow management
  • Banking/Financing
  • Overseeing accounts receivable/payable, fortnightly payroll, and superannuation payments
  • GST/PAYG lodgements

Financial Strategy Overview:

  • Organisational (financial) strategy that aligns across and business mission and vision
  • Annual (financial) strategic review & planning
  • Budgeting
  • In collaboration with the Partnerships & Fundraising manager develop and implement the fundraising strategy
  • Overseeing Business Development targets and forecasting
  • (Financial) IP Licensing
  • Identified financial projects in line with business goals and objectives

Personal Traits and Skills

A CA qualified financial accountant with a proven background gained within a commercial environment, you will be able to demonstrate previous experience in significantly enhancing accounting systems, controls, and processes for strong business outcomes.

You will be a strategic thinker who helps drive robust and diligent commercial outcomes. You will have high attention to detail, and be an excellent communicator with strong leadership skills. You will be able to quickly demonstrate the capacity to manage teams to meet reporting requirements, autonomously and in response to tight deadlines.
