The Indi Kindi Team and Community Development Anchor will support the continued development of the Indi Kindi Program established in our Borroloola & Tennant Creek NT Hubs. This role requires some immersion in the communities in which we operate, and is flexibly open to short and medium stays across our two Hubs, in agreement with you, local teams, the Program Director and Head of Operations & HR.

A key responsibility of this role is to coach and mentor the Indi Kindi Team Educators in both Borroloola and Tennant Creek, NT to support them lead and build their capacity. You will support the Indi Kindi Team so Educators can develop and foster community relationships and culturally appropriate working relationships with families, service providers and community members.

Working in collaboration with the Program Director (Sydney Head Office), you will support operations, as well as research, investigation and reports which harness our key pillars, partnerships, data and measurement which will continue to enable and support our Indi Kindi Program’s best practice development, growth and innovation.

Essential to this role is to already be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait leaders, or be willing to learn and be immersed in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership, ensuring that all relationships in the workplace are based on mutual respect in a way that celebrates diversity and ensures cultural safety.

Key Duties:

Team Development

  • Anchoring and supporting the day-to-day implementation and delivery of the Indi Kindi program pillars liaising and providing support to Indi Kindi Team Educators. A key focus is to mentor and support to build capacity in our local Indi Kindi Educators.

Community Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support community stakeholder relationships to increase awareness of our programs, engagement of the local families and participation of the children across our NT Hubs.

Partners Coordination

  • Plan and develop partnerships with key national organisations and partners (e,g UNICEF Australia, HealthLAB).
  • Liaise with Research and Evaluation partners to coordinate plans, and measure the outcomes of our delivery, ensuring measures implemented are a key aspect of the output across all team members involved.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience engaging effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander or other culturally diverse or marginalised communities on health or community-development-linked projects with a servant-leader mindset .
  • Proven experience in developing, coaching and mentoring teams, whilst motivating them across a number of deliverables and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience with managing and supporting diverse staff groups, including the capacity to provide strong leadership and anchoring of staff.
  • Eligibility to receive a State Working with Children check (NT Ochre Card) and National Police Check.
  • Desire to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and a commitment to helping create positive change amongst children in Indigenous communities.

Desired Criteria:

  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, Community Development or similar.
  • Previous experience in the not for profit sector or community development environment is desirable.
  • Australian Permanent Resident.

Shared Accommodation is provided by the Moriarty Foundation for time spent in Borroloola, NT, with short-term temporary accommodation provided for time spent in Tennant Creek, NT. Also offered, is a competitive salary, mobile phone and laptop.

To be successful in this role you will need to display initiative, excellent interpersonal and networking skills, along with a passion for working in the field and engaging with local communities. You will be a people person who can mediate and find resolutions across the challenging scenarios related to managing teams, working with local stakeholders and community members who have different needs and points of view. You will understand and have a commitment to servant leadership.
