About the role

Reporting to the Director, Strategic Relations, you will be part of our Communications Team that supports the CEO, Executive team and staff to communicate clearly with one another and with our stakeholders to reform the primary health care system.

The core responsibilities of the Communications and Media Adviser are:

  • Researching, writing and editing quality content for use in all print, digital and other mediums
  • Providing expert communications and media support and advice including creating and executing communication strategies, producing videos and other digital content
  • Building strong media and stakeholder relations that may include coordinating events such as launches or community consultations

A typical day could include:

  • Attending a kick-off meeting for commissioning new alcohol and other drug, mental health services or a pilot program to support general practice to identify and respond to family violence
  • Developing a tactical communications strategy
  • Rewriting or editing something that's full of health jargon or government speak into plain English
  • Handling a media inquiry or writing a newspaper opinion piece
  • Scheduling COVID-19 or other e-blasts to aged care providers or general practices or to disability services - or having to do a sudden, urgent eblast

About you

  • You are an excellent, versatile and quick writer who can develop and execute communications strategies.
  • You can find and create engaging stories across the organisation including organising graphics and photographs.
  • You can adapt stories, messages and tone for different audiences and are able to convey often complex and/or sensitive policies, topics, data and service offerings in easy-to-understand language.
  • You love to collaborate but work reliably on your own and pay attention to the detail.
  • You are professional, respectful, helpful and reliable.
  • You are interested in and monitor the news daily and ideally have experience in health or government communications.
  • You have at least 5 years' experience working in a communications agency, inhouse communications team, or the media and can demonstrate how you manage multiple requests and deadlines and effectively liaise with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in digital marketing, website management or reputation and crisis management would also be highly regarded.
