Mount Barker Community Centre is a fast-growing service provider in the Mount Barker region and the only community centre currently in the Mount Barker council district. Over the last ten years the centre has expanded its services to the Mount Barker community in locations both onsite and outside of our centre.
Aside from operating our Community Centre our services also include Family House Child Care, Mount Barker Men’s Shed, Duck Flat Community Garden and the operations of the Brukunga Hall.
The Community Connections Program (CCP) is administered by the Department of Human Services (DHS) on behalf of the Minister for Human Services. The CCP supports people aged 18 to 64 years or 49 years for Aboriginal people, living in South Australia whose independence and quality of life is at risk because they are disconnected from necessary support and face heightened vulnerability due to social isolation. The CCP supports this target population by delivering short-term programs and services to achieve the key objective of supporting people to increase independence by building connections with communities, social networks and services.
Mount Barker Community Centre has been funded to act as a ‘Community Partner’. Community Partners use their local community connections and community development expertise to identify opportunities for participants to engage socially beyond their place of residence, actively participate in local community activities and increase social connection, community participation and inclusion.
