Project Officer

North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service

NAAFLS is forming a Project Team to develop and deliver educational resources to selected communities across the Top End of the Northern Territory. The Project Officer will work collaboratively within the legal education project team to coordinate project activities on community including workshops, meetings and other project related activities such as booking of venues and accommodation.

This will include providing support and guidance to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander stakeholders to ensure the project team achieves cultural safety and effective community consultation, and to foster positive working relationships and partnerships within relevant communities and stakeholders to ensure broad community support of the developed education programs and approaches.

The Project Officer will have proven ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in a service delivery environment, including strong relationship building and advocacy skills and an ability to deliver education programs. Willingness to use your cultural expertise to help shape and enhance service delivery for our clients is required.

Travel to remote communities in the Top End, providing legal education and assistance to clients for up to a week at a time will be required.

It is a requirement that prior to commencing in this role, you must possess an Ochre Card (Working with Children Clearance), a National Criminal History Check (within 3 months) and a current Northern Territory driver’s licence or the ability to obtain one.

This position is identified for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and section 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1996 (NT).
