NAAFLS is forming a Project Team to develop and deliver educational resources to selected communities across the Top End of the Northern Territory. The Social Worker – Legal Education Project will utilise their knowledge and frameworks to support an assessment, among a few selected communities, aimed at improving NAAFLS’ understanding of the needs, priorities and legally sound approaches to the delivery of violence prevention and child protection community education.

This will involve collaboration with stakeholder organisations within these communities to ensure developed education programs and approaches are supported by the broader community.

The Social Worker – Legal Education Project will hold a minimum Bachelor of Social Work or Masters (qualifying) and eligibility for AASW registration. A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people from Top End communities including cross-cultural communication is required.

Travel to remote communities in the Top End, providing legal education and assistance to clients for up to a week at a time will be required.

It is a requirement that prior to commencing in this role, you must possess an Ochre Card (Working with Children Clearance), a National Criminal History Check (within 3 months) and a current Northern Territory driver’s licence or the ability to obtain one.

Preference will be given to Aboriginal applicants if they are assessed as suitable to perform all the duties, at a level appropriate, for the position. An applicant selected under this special measure will be required to provide evidence of their eligibility prior to commencement including a supporting statement from an appropriate Aboriginal organisation.
