Aboriginal Peak Organisations of the Northern Territory (APO NT) is an alliance comprising the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA), Central Land Council (CLC), Northern Land Council (NLC), Anindilyakwa Land Council (ALC), Tiwi Land Council (TLC), Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance of the NT (AMSANT), Aboriginal Housing NT (AHNT) and NT Indigenous Business Network (NT IBN).

The alliance was created to provide a more effective response to key issues of joint interest and concern affecting Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory, including through advocating practical policy solutions to government.

NAAJA currently auspice APO NT funds under direction from the APO NT Governing Committee.

APO NT has recently been awarded funding for an exciting new project to co-design programs with Government. 

We are currently seeking a Senior Project Officer to lead this work. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract.

The objectives of the project include:

  • To establish an independent peak / expert Aboriginal education body for the purposes of representation, participation and decision making to negotiate with the NT and Federal Governments through a partnership approach on education-related Closing the Gap policy and project design.
  • A peak / expert Aboriginal Education body that will represent the unique needs, knowledge and aspirations of Aboriginal leaders, educators, families and community members through a united voice.
  • Ensure that Aboriginal people with the expertise and experience in the education sector are leading the co-design process towards achieving and improving equity in education for Aboriginal children, youth and adults, i.e., early childhood through to adult education.

This position is identified for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and section 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1996 (NT).

The position offers attractive employment benefits including:

  • Salary of PSO.6.1 $99,495 – PSO6.4 $108,612 per annum, plus superannuation
