Gilbert + Tobin and NAAJA are offering a unique cadetship in Darwin, designed for an Indigenous law student like you. This part-time opportunity provides invaluable experience in diverse legal areas within a civil law practice including police accountability and child protection.
As a cadet, you'll be more than just a student – you'll be a part of a team making a difference. You will need to be enrolled in a law degree, possess strong communication skills, and be ready for occasional travel during university breaks.

Key Selection Criteria:
- Currently enrolled in a tertiary law degree at an Australian institution with excellent academic results.
- Ability and interest in undertaking civil litigation and casework, research and drafting under the supervision of an admitted solicitor.
- Preparedness to undertake overnight travel to, and to work in, all NAAJA offices and remote Aboriginal communities during university breaks.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including effective cross-cultural communication skills, and willingness to work with cultural and language interpreters.
- Ability to work constructively with a diverse team of legal and non-legal staff to achieve NAAJA’s goals.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to obtain a “Working with Children Clearance” (Ochre Card) upon commencement.
- Satisfactory criminal history check and no history of disqualification from employment by a legal practice.
