Administration Officer

Nawarddeken Academy
  • Full Time
  • Commencing ASAP

An incredible opportunity is now available to take on within our growing organisation, based in Darwin with some travel to the Warddeken Indigenous Protected Area (IPA), in remote western Arnhem Land. The Nawarddeken Academy is seeking an Administrative Officer (AO) who can develop strong relationships within the Warddeken community, in a region that is exceptional in its natural and cultural value and breathtaking in its beauty.

The Nawarddeken Academy was established in August 2015, at the request of local Indigenous elders who expressed a desire to educate their children on-country and create learning experiences based on the unique languages, culture and environment of the Kuwarddewardde (Arnhem Land Plateau). The Academy is an independent school, registered to teach students from Transition to Year 7 at Kabulwarnamyo. The Academy will begin the delivery of full-time education in Manmoyi and Mamadawerre on 18th October 2021, expanding from one to 3 sites.

The Academy is currently registered to teach students from Transition to Year 7, however, the school also enrols and delivers education for older students providing a post primary and middle school curriculum where required. The Academy also supports an early learning cohort. The Administration Officer (AO) is a new position within our organisation and will be responsible for the effective administration of the company. The AO is a point of contact for Nawarddeken parents, children, staff visitors and contractors. The AO provides information and assistance in a manner that is representative of a professional and supportive school environment. It is essential that the person in this role has a respect and passion for working with First Nations people. The AO will be expected to be proactive in their approach to all aspects of this position and must demonstrate significant initiative within a complex remote context. The work environment often necessitates the development and implementation of unique, creative and flexible strategies to ensure effective administration.

It is truly a rare opportunity to work at the cutting edge with an exceptional Indigenous organisation.
