About the position

The State Manager, WA is a senior position providing leadership in influencing public policy (both locally and nationally). A strong understanding and ability to advocate on operational and wider policy issues is essential. This will include disability workforce issues, NDIS, quality and safeguarding, and matters related to disability access, inclusion and employment.  

The role requires developing and disseminating information and providing networking opportunities that support NDS members in their work to deliver high quality services.  

The State Manager will work as part of a cohesive national organisation to grow membership and deliver value to members. Building strong government relationships and seeking sector wide funding opportunities to build knowledge, skills and relationships in the broader disability sector is also a key feature of the role. 

This position is part of the executive management team of NDS. It is expected that the position holder is aligned to, and demonstrates NDS’s values of respect, teamwork, collaboration, leadership and innovation at all times.

Key Accountabilities

  • Demonstrate values based leadership dedicated to strengthening a dynamic, sustainable disability sector
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of the disability workforce, the NDIS including quality and safeguarding, disability access, inclusion and employment issues
  • Drive local membership growth and retention
  • Develop, lead and coordinate local policy initiatives, projects and member support and sector initiatives
  • Generate income growth from multiple channels – membership, government and other sources
  • Manage the administration and finances of the WA State Office
  • Contribute to a strong disability services sector in WA that supports life opportunities for people with disability.
  • Lead a team of passionate professionals  
  • Champion the rights of all people with disability as valued members of the WA community though the provision of ACROD Parking program, Companion Card and support for the Changing Places Network

About you:

To succeed in this role, you bring:

  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills with a range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge and a contemporary understanding of the disability sector
  • An understanding of public policy processes
  • Innovative thinking and problem solving skills to implement solutions aligned to NDS’ strategic direction
  • Demonstrated evidence of adaptability and resilience in a changing business context
  • Capacity to undertake travel within the state, and nationally as required
  • A tertiary qualification in a social sciences/social policy discipline and/or senior executive experience in government, disability or community services is desirable, but not essential
