About the Role

  • Vacancy for a Mental Health Clinician with tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy/ Social Work/ MH Nursing/ Psychology OR Mental Health Worker or person with lived experience with tertiary or vocational qualification and mental health experience in disciplines including Division 2 nursing, youth work, Drugs & Alcohol, community services etc
  • Negotiable EFT- part time 0.6 FTE or full time
  • Maximum Term Contract until 31 June 2022
  • Salary depending on qualification, skills and experience (Between 77k - 87k for MH Clinician & 64k - 69k for MH Workers)

STEPMI – Services and Treatment for Enduring and Persistent Mental Illness

The STEPMI model (Services and Treatment for Enduring and Persistent Mental Illness) focuses on provision of primary care treatment combinations to people with enduring and persistent serious mental Illness in the community. Across the Geelong Otway region, it is intended to deliver equitable access to appropriate services that facilitate the coordinated and efficient provision of person-centred treatment and care. Shared treatment plans will underpin liaison and partnership with care teams, GPs and other care providers. STEPMI access to the evidence-based Optimal Health Program (OHP), co-facilitated by a clinician and Peer Support Worker.

As a Mental Health Clinician, you will have a background in and be registered as an Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse or Psychologist. As a Mental Health Worker, you may have other qualifications or certifications with experience in mental health, in areas of RN Division 2 nursing or Youth Work. Applications will also be considered for those that identify with having lived experience in mental illness, and possess a certificate IV in mental health, Drugs & Alcohol or Diploma in community services.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary recovery-focused team providing high quality support to clients of the STEPMI program. You will work in close collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team inclusive of an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner in partnership Drawing on your disciplinary skills, you will engage with clients, clinicians, and the consumer’s treatment team, their family, friends and carers to provide high quality assessments and interventions aimed at improving mental health outcomes for clients. You will play an active role in disciplinary knowledge sharing with your Neami colleagues and creating a reciprocal learning environment for staff.

Core duties

  • Participate in a strong clinical governance culture within the team, where each practitioner takes responsibility for their own decision making and quality improvement activities
  • Coordinate client therapeutic interventions by formulating shared treatment plans in collaboration with the consumer, staff and external workers and agencies, including making internal and external referrals as needed.
  • Support the service to be accessible to CALD and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, and contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to monitor, and review the level of accessibility.

Qualification Requirements

  • Qualified in one of the following disciplines and membership to associated professional body: Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse or Psychologist.

OR

  • Qualifications in and mental health experience in areas including Division 2 nursing, and youth work. Applications will also be considered for people with lived experience that possess certificate IV in MH, D&A, peer work, or a graduate diploma in community services.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of the recovery model
  • Advanced Computer skills

  • Copy of relevant qualification/professional registration depending on the MH Clinician or MH Worker role
  • Police check (refer to PD) – disclosable outcomes considered
  • Current Working with Children Check
