About the Role

  • Casual Position
  • 7-day rotating roster
  • Consumer Service Delivery Level 2 $67,330 - $72,196 per annum
  • Based at the Urgent Mental Health Care Centre, Adelaide.

Peer Support Workers are integral members of the team and represent 50% of the workforce within the UMHCC. Peer Support workers draw on their lived experience of recovery from mental illness, mental health crisis or caring for someone living with a mental illness to instill confidence and hope in others about the journey of recovery. You must have a lived experience of your own mental illness/caring role, and a rich understanding of the processes of recovery. You must be willing to purposefully use your own story to help others further their own understanding of recovery.

Core duties

  • Work to the principles that underpin the Collaborative Recovery Model (CRM) protocols.
  • Engage consumers and develop trusting and professional relationships
  • Work closely with clinical case managers in order to deliver the best possible comprehensive service to consumers
  • Work within a holistic framework taking into account the needs of consumers, family, carers and other members of the community and provide culturally appropriate service responses
  • Group facilitation of our peer led program, Flourish
  • Lived experience of your own mental illness and a rich understanding of your own processes of recovery
  • A willingness to purposefully use your own story to help others further their own understanding of recovery

Mandatory requirements

  • It is a requirement of the Peer Support Worker position that you hold, and provide Neami evidence of, a Mental Health (or equivalent Human Services, Community Services) qualification of Certificate IV level or above, or complete such a qualification within 2 years of your commencement of employment.

  • Police check (refer to PD) – disclosable outcomes considered
