The Kalgoorlie Mental Health Step Up Step Down Service (KMHSS) is a 10 bed Step Up Step Down facility that provides a community based psychosocial recovery based option for people who are becoming unwell and at risk of being referred to hospital (‘step up’) or leaving hospital but in need of extra support to transition back to into the community (‘step down). The KMHSS aims to prevent avoidable mental health inpatient admissions. KMHSS is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and is funded by the WA Mental Health Commission.

The service is available to people living in the Goldfields region for up to a 28 day stay. The service provides support for people who are aged 16 years and over (16-17yo may require additional consent), and during their stay consumers are assisted to develop a relapse prevention or wellness plan. We use an approach called the Collaborative Recovery Model (CRM) to support people through our services. The CRM assists individuals to identify their personal strengths and values, to set goals and then helps them make progress towards achieving them.

You will draw on your discipline skills, to engage with the consumer, clinicians, the consumer’s treatment team, Neami staff and family/friends/carers to provide high quality assessments and interventions aimed at improving physical and mental health outcomes for consumers.

What will you bring to the role

  • Relevant clinical experience working within a rehabilitation/recovery setting is desirable
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to meet program goals and objectives
  • Knowledge of complex mental health and drug and alcohol issues
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of the recovery model

Mandatory requirements:

  • Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent
  • Registration as a Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a current Certificate of Registration.
  • 2 years’ experience in mental health practice and a relevant post-registration and/or tertiary qualifications in mental health nursing is highly desirable
  • Current WA Working with Children Check
  • Australian Working Rights
  • Driver’s licence
  • Police check (refer to PD) – disclosable outcomes considered
  • Neami National will require, as part of our condition of employment, that all candidates applying for any position must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (or have received one dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine and have a scheduled appointment to receive their second dose.)
  • Candidates will be required to provide appropriate evidence of COVID-19 vaccination to Neami National.
