The Neami Research, Engagement and Advocacy team oversees strategic development, research and evaluation, tenders and submissions, program design, consumer participation and advocacy and engagement. A key function of the Research, Engagement and Advocacy team is to ensure the organisation has the capacity and resources required to adapt and respond in a changing environment. A critical aspect of this is enhancing the capability of the organisation to implement evidence-based practice through a range of innovative projects.

The Research and Evaluation team supports activities and processes nationally that generate knowledge, answer questions and enhance understanding about what matters to the people Neami supports and where we can have impact. The team contributes to program logic modelling, synthesising literature, monitoring and evaluation design, measurement and survey design, and research activities.

The Position

Engage in research and evaluation activity and provide leadership and oversight of work within the Research and Evaluation team, including supervision and support of 3-6 staff working within the team. The role will support effective liaison and collaboration between R&E, people with living expertise and their supporters and families, external partners, and the rest of the organisation (including Service Design and Implementation, Quality and Consumer Experience, Learning and Development, IT, and service sites to:

  1. Play a leadership role within the team and organisation, representing R&E or REA in relevant groups, committees or projects as required.
  2. Plan and deliver research and evaluation activities (including planning and conduct of research and evaluation, literature review and synthesis, data analysis, dissemination of findings, knowledge translation) for service and organisational learning, continuous improvement, knowledge creation and strategic success.
  3. Ensure comprehensive, effective, and efficient data collection, analysis and reporting systems and processes. This may include leading and coordinating Neami’s consumer data function, a shared function between Research and Evaluation, services and IT with oversight of all consumer data.

About you:

  • Commitment to working in partnership with people with lived and living experience, including a willingness to share power, build relationships, remain curious, and ensure all activity is trauma informed and does no harm.
  • Formal tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline such as Health Science, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Social Science or related field, with a significant research component
  • Demonstrated experience in the conduct of qualitative and quantitative research and evaluation (may hold expertise in one or more methodologies)
  • Knowledge and experience of analytic software – e.g. SPSS, NVivo – and referencing software
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of research reports and publications
  • Takes initiative, acts with confidence, and works under own direction
  • High level written and oral communication skills
