The Organisation

Nestled on the banks of Birrarung and only four kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD, Collingwood Children’s Farm (CCF) supports and engages local communities experiencing adversity. A much-loved non-profit organisation, the Farm’s reason for being remains true to its roots: community engagement, education and connection with nature, green space and animals.

The Farm supports social inclusion through a range of community programs, delivered on a working farm encouraging a connection to nature. Various school, work experience and volunteer programs provide educational opportunities around urban agriculture for students and community and offer pathways to further employment in the industry.

Entry, membership, events, grants, and donations all help the Farm care for the animals, heritage farmland, and fund inclusive programs to support those experiencing adversity.

The Role

Reporting to the Management Committee, you will provide leadership, management and oversight across a range of new and existing collaborations and programs in community development, education, community stakeholder partnerships; identifying opportunities for growth and diversifying income.

You will have responsibility for:

  • The continual development and implementation of the strategic plan
  • Management of the finances including budget, payroll and overall sustainability
  • Oversee the daily operations of the farm and leadership of a multi-disciplinary team of staff and volunteer base
  • Communications to raise awareness and promote the farm’s profile

Skills Required

You are tertiary qualified, or have significant experience in management, land management, education, or community development and you are an empathetic senior manager with natural leadership abilities.

Ideally, you have experience in leading community programs with an understanding of funding streams and knowledge of the needs and issues confronted by people facing adversity.

You are financially astute with experience delivering advice to a board or management committee. Your experience includes:

  • A strong understanding of community development
  • Ability to lead and manage diverse programs
  • Financial management, preparation of budgets and financial analysis
  • A track record of identifying and securing new funding opportunities
  • Success in leading, motivating and developing staff and volunteers
  • Developing relationships and partnerships with government and community
