RedR Australia is an international humanitarian organisation that contributes to humanitarian responses in the Pacific, Asia and the Middle East, and Africa. With offices in Melbourne, Suva (Fiji), and Amman (Jordan), RedR recruits, trains, and deploys technical specialists to help communities, partners, and nations prepare for, respond to and recover from natural hazards and conflict. RedR Australia maintains a roster of more than 750 technical experts across a range of skill profiles including Information management, protection, humanitarian coordination, public and clinical health, logistics, WASH, and disaster risk reduction and disaster risk management.

The Role

The Manager, Strategic Communications leads the oversight and implementation of RedR’s programme communications strategies and associated content collection plans. You are responsible for driving a digitally-enabled future with a focus on more inclusive, engaging, and experiential communications. This leadership position supports a small team of communications specialists and contracted providers to uplift RedR’s internal communication and collaboration. You will work closely with RedR’s executive, peers, regional offices; your stakeholders include the media, private sector and UN partners, Government, universities, and donors. Critically, this key role is instrumental in supporting DFAT to meet its humanitarian public diplomacy priorities by increasing the awareness, visibility, and results reporting for the Australia Assists program. You will also:

  • Manage the strategy and execution of relevant, accurate, and creative multi-channel materials
  • Oversee website and social media channels and the Australia Assists social media
  • Support the production of the Australia Assists mid-year and Annual Report
  • Manage and implement campaigns including humanitarian advocacy
  • Project manage procurement, management, and distribution of all branded materials
  • Support DFAT on all Australia Assists communications activities to meet strategic goals
  • Promote and market training events and support lead generation
  • Manage communications relationships with stakeholders including UN organisations
  • Develop a high-performance driving collaboration, cooperation, respect, and mutual support
  • Collaborate with the Manager, MEAL to showcase the Australia Assists programme impacts

Skills Required

You are a communications leader with relevant tertiary qualifications (or equivalent experience) and sophisticated writing, editing, and proofreading skills. You have demonstrated success in planning and implementing humanitarian/development campaigns and experience developing and managing engaging content strategy and implementation for multiple channels. Additionally, you offer:

  • Excellent organisational management skills and proven ability to meet competing deadlines
  • Exceptional people and relationship management and communication skills
  • Expertise in writing and content production for a range of stakeholder groups
  • Proven expertise in building brand awareness with limited resources
  • Experience supporting business development opportunities and advocacy campaigns
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Suite, and systems development
  • Knowledge of DFAT and the Australian Aid programme and (ACFID) policies and strategies is a plus
  • Experience working with technical experts/data, and an understanding of data visualisation
  • Experience as a RedR Australia or other standby roster member will be highly regarded.
