NIYEC is a growing collective of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people committed to transforming learning systems. Through collaboration and systemic change, we’re shaping a future that centres Indigenous self-determination, liberty, and freedom in education.
This role will support the daily operations of NIYEC, ensuring smooth administration, coordination, and communications across projects. The Operations Coordinator will work closely with the program team, supporting events, managing resources, and helping to streamline operations as we expand our initiatives. This role requires a candidate who is deeply committed to NIYEC’s vision and is eager to contribute to impactful work.
Operations & Coordination: Manage daily administration, coordinate events, track budgets, and oversee operational systems to ensure smooth functioning.
Governance Support: Provide secretariat support for board meetings, including preparing agendas, recording minutes, and maintaining governance documents.
Relationship Building: Act as a key contact for inquiries, coordinate communication between teams and stakeholders, and support fundraising activities.
Data & Reporting: Maintain accurate records, track program activities, and produce reports to inform strategic decisions.
Policy & Continuous Improvement: Ensure organisational policies and procedures are up to date, compliant, and effectively implemented, while identifying opportunities for efficiency.
Collaboration and teamwork: Ability to work with team members both in person, and remotely, on interconnected projects.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of fostering positive relationships across teams, community members, and external partners.
Budgeting: Proven ability to monitor budgets, track expenses, and produce financial reports to ensure alignment with organisational goals and compliance with financial guidelines.
Operational and Administrative Experience: Demonstrated experience in coordinating daily operations, including managing administrative tasks, tracking budgets, and supporting logistical needs within a nonprofit, Indigenous-led organisation, or similar setting.
Project and Event Coordination Skills: Experience in planning, coordinating, and executing programs or events, including managing timelines, coordinating with vendors and stakeholders, and addressing logistical needs.
Governance and Board Support: Familiarity with governance practices and experience providing secretariat support for boards or committees, including preparing agendas, recording minutes, and maintaining accurate records.
Adaptability and Proactivity: Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, showing initiative, problem-solving skills.
Values alignment: Commitment to social justice, education systems change and backing young people.
Relevant university qualification in business administration, management, commerce or related field, or, minimum of three years work experience.
Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and/or communities.
Values alignment with NIYEC vision and purpose.
Experience in administrative, operations, or project coordination role, ideally within nonprofit or Indigenous-led organisations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and project management tools (e.g., Asana).
