About the NLC

We are responsible for assisting Aboriginal people in the Top End of the Northern Territory to acquire and manage their lands and seas. Our vision is to ensure that Aboriginal people benefit socially, culturally and economically from the secure possession of their land, waters and seas.

About the Role

This position is responsible for the effective implementation and on-going management of NLC Regional Development projects and programs in the Darwin Daly Wagait region. This position will assist with the management and coordination of community consultations, meeting logistics and administrative support to the Regional Office operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Regional Manager in the coordination and management of consultations, meeting logistics and negotiations between Aboriginal traditional owners, Aboriginal groups and third parties interested in the exploration and/or development activities on Aboriginal land in the relevant regions.
  • Seek and document instructions from Traditional Owners and other Aboriginal groups relating to the use and management of their land, as required under the Aboriginal Land Rights (NT) Act 1976 (ARLA).
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with NLC staff and external stakeholders whilst promoting the interests of the NLC.
  • Report and provide accurate and timely advice to the Regional Manager on any issues that emerge that may affect the region in order to inform NLC service delivery.

About you

To thrive in this role you will have:

  • Significant demonstrated knowledge, understanding and respect of Indigenous Australian culture, customs and society and the ability to gain and maintain credibility with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, communities and organisations to ensure all work produced and undertaken is culturally safe and appropriate.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing project/program management activities to a high standard, with an ability to harness resources to effectively plan, coordinate and manage associated activities.
  • Demonstrated high level cross-cultural, interpersonal and verbal communication skills with an ability to effectively liaise, engage and coordinate across an organisation and to build productive working relationships with work colleagues, constituents and external stakeholders.
  • High level conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills and a capacity to effectively manage staff in a small team environment, including delineating work priorities and delegating tasks and identifying staff training and development needs.
  • Sound writing skills and the ability to produce clear, concise and informative documents to suit a range of purposes and audiences.

Remuneration and Benefits

  • Full-Time Permanent Contract
  • Location: Darwin
  • Salary: $69,203 - $73,379
  • Allowances
  • FBT exempt salary packaging benefits pay
  • 13% superannuation contribution
  • 5 weeks annual leave & 17.5% annual leave loading
