No to Violence works to bring about the changes our community needs to eliminate men’s use of family violence. For over 25 years, we have been working directly with men who use family violence to support them to change. Our expertise in their behaviour, attitudes and choices has enabled us to develop standards, programs and training, lead policy development, and fulfil our role as the largest peak body for organisations and individuals working with men to end family violence in Australia. We provide telephone counselling, information and referrals every day for men in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania. As a pro-feminist organisation, at the centre of our work is the safety of women and children, as by ending men’s violence families can have happier, safer and more fulfilled lives.

Key role responsibilities

NTV has acquired new state-based funding to provide men’s family violence services to the SA community. We are looking for a South Australia Men’s Family Violence Counsellor Team Leader who will work in accordance with NTV principles and practices and manage a team of Men’s Family Violence Counsellors (MFVC) based in an Adelaide office.

The SA MFVC Team Leader will have significant experience of working in the specialist male family violence sector and have experience in leading a team of counsellors. They will be responsible for ensuring MFVC’s comply with clinical governance policies and procedures and also relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.

As we are expanding into South Australia there will also be some work in the sector development space, representing NTV as a “thought leader” in SA and identifying opportunities for NTV to engage in sector development opportunities in SA. They will also develop and maintain productive working relationships with SA based partner agencies and government departments to enable a multi-disciplinary, cross-sector approach to NTV’s policy development and advocacy activities.

The Team Leader should also be qualified and capable of providing direct services to men on an as needs basis.

Mandatory Requirements

  • A qualification or relevant experience, in line with the mandatory minimum qualifications requirements for specialist family violence practitioners
  • Significant practice-based experience working within the specialist male family violence sector
  • Experienced in leading a team of counselling practitioners, including providing coaching and mentoring support
  • A professional-level understanding of the social and gendered context of family violence and the impact of violence on women and children
  • Demonstrated personal commitment to the practice and principles of non-violence, justice and gender equity issues
  • A professional level understanding, and practical experience of providing specialist counselling services which operates in the context of a risk management framework and quality assurances processes
