It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence-based work in service delivery, advocacy and support.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Tjungu (together) team provides support, advocacy and case management to ngaltutjara tjuta – people with disabilities, elderly people, and their carers & families.

Tjungu was chosen as the title for the program to reflect the fact that aged, disability and mental health issues often overlap and require workers and families to meet these challenges together.

Tjungu philosophy and principles support the rights of older Anangu people and people with disabilities to live in their community so that family and relationships can be maintained and spiritual and physical connections with country are continued.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Disability & Carer Support Project Officer to join our Tjungu Team on a Fixed-Term contract, based in Wingellina, WA. The Tjungu Team provides support, advocacy and case management to people with disabilities, elderly people, and their carers and families.

The Disability & Carer Support Project Officer works in a malparara (side-by-side) partnership with an Anangu / Yarnangu Aboriginal Disability Project Officer. This Service aims to increase the independence and participation of people with disabilities in community life.

The ideal applicant will have relevant tertiary qualifications and experience in disability, human services or community development. Experience and qualifications in Early Childhood will also be highly regarded.

This is a unique chance to work for an organisation that takes a grassroots approach to community development. You will live, work and build lasting relationships with local communities and get to experience an amazing landscape and part of the world. This is an extraordinary opportunity to learn about yourself, another culture and grow professionally at the same time.

You will work within a supportive, trauma-informed framework and we provide a comprehensive culturally aware orientation program. You will receive best practice clinical supervision and professional development that includes vicarious trauma, case management and four-wheel drive training. We also provide critical incident de-briefing and a range of counselling services to support you.

In addition to this we offer a generous remuneration package. You will receive an above award salary, salary packaging benefits, 32 days (pro-rata) of annual leave and 15 days (pro-rata) of personal leave.
