about NPY women's council

Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women’s Council was founded and is still led, governed and directed by women from the NPY region. It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, Women’s Council continues to provide progressive, innovative and evidence-based work in service delivery, advocacy and support. At its core NPY Women’s Council is about family and community – Walytja. Our purpose is to work side by side with women, children and their families of the NPY region in central Australia to help increase their capacity to lead safe and healthy lives with improved life choices.

This is an opportunity for an experienced HR Manager to join a meaningful and purpose-led organisation. The role reports to the CEO, is a member of the Executive Leadership team, and leads a strong and dedicated business support team of 7 staff comprising Human Resources, Business Administration, and Property and Vehicle Maintenance. The role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day business support activities, managing complex HR matters, and leading impactful change initiatives such as NPYWC's Workforce Development and Capability Framework and Learning and Development Framework.

The ideal candidate will have a qualification in human resources and/or another relevant business field, a strong generalist HR background, and experience leading a team of staff. You will also have the ability to develop and implement major strategic HR projects, as well as the ability to effectively manage and prioritise a wide variety of responsibilities. You will have an empathetic and emotionally intelligent approach, highly developed interpersonal skills, and an understanding of HR management and frameworks within cross-cultural and/or high-trauma contexts.

We offer the opportunity to work within a supportive, trauma-informed framework and to learn community development and intercultural liaison from highly skilled, experienced professionals. Prior experience working with remote communities in the Central Desert region is desirable but not required, and this role could offer the right person the opportunity to gain this experience.

We provide a comprehensive orientation and training program and we support ongoing professional development activities. In addition, we promote best practice supervision to support and develop our staff. We provide a generous remuneration package including an above award salary, salary packaging benefits, 6 weeks of annual leave, 3 weeks of personal leave (to care for you and your family), plus additional leave entitlements and a retention bonus. The Women’s Council provides use of a company vehicle when travelling remotely along with travel allowance.
