NPY Women's Council

People of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Exciting opportunity in a unique social enterprise
  • Relocation assistance provided
  • Generous leave entitlements

Tjanpi Desert Weavers (Tjanpi) was initiated by NPY Women’s Council in 1995 in response to an expressed need by Anangu women for meaningful and culturally appropriate employment. Since 1995, Tjanpi (meaning ‘dry grass’) has evolved into a vital and dynamic Indigenous social enterprise of NPY Women’s Council and enables women on the lands to earn a regular income from selling their fibre art.

We are now recruiting for a Sales Assistant to join the Tjanpi Desert Weavers team. This role will support the Sales and Marketing Officer to reach sales targets by supporting a number of activities. These include photographing artworks and editing images, cataloguing artworks, packing orders for distribution to customers and retail stores across Australia, and assisting customers in the Gallery.

The ideal person will have experience in retail sales and / or administrative work in the arts and / or craft sector, or the ability to learn quickly. You will have experience with keeping accurate transaction records and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. Ideally, you will have previous experience working in a cross-cultural environment and be able to demonstrate a commitment to the empowerment of Aboriginal women on the lands through the facilitation of artistic, cultural and economic development.

This is a unique chance to work for an organisation that takes a grassroots approach to community development. You will live, work and build lasting relationships within a local community and get to experience an amazing landscape and part of the world.

This is your opportunity to make a real impact alongside a dedicated, skilled and supportive group of people. The organisation is committed to working within the NPY lands for the benefit of Anangu people in the region and you will work in an environment and landscape unique to Australia.
