About Us:

The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) was established under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW) (ALRA). NSWALC is a self-funding statutory authority responsible for protecting and promoting the rights and interests of Aboriginal people in NSW.

NSWALC is seeking experienced Community & Economic Development Officers to join our network delivery team. In this role you’ll perform project management and support activities to contribute to the development and delivery of a range of programs and projects in line with established objectives.

The position holder will work closely with LALCs to facilitate engagement in community development, early stage business enterprise development and supporting capacity building towards this aim, including planning, financial, business and entrepreneurship skills in LALCs. The role will also allow for direct communication with LALCs on strategic NSWALC initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivering a range of program and project management and support services, given tight deadlines, limited resources and the need to manage competing priorities
  • Working collaboratively with LALCs to shape and progress business enterprise opportunities
  • Working in a team where staff are dispersed at a number of Zone Offices and the NSWALC Head Office.
  • Provide a range of project management and support services, including preparation of reports and briefs, coordinating resources, maintaining project documentation and implementing and monitoring program and project plans, to ensure program and project outcomes are achieved on time, on budget, to quality standards and within agreed scope, in line with established program and project management methodology. Prepare and maintain program and project documentation for reporting, monitoring and evaluation purposes to ensure accessibility of quality information and contribute to the achievement of project outcomes.
  • Communicate with key stakeholders and coordinate working groups, committees and consultations to facilitate coordination, exchange of information and support project completion in line with program and project plans.
  • Source, collate and compile data and information to identify emerging issues and track and report on program and project progress against established milestones and deliverables.
  • Frequent intra-state travel.

Success Profile:

  • Knowledge and awareness of the cultural practices, values and issues that affect Aboriginal people in today's society.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and application of project management principles across programs, business development, finance or related field.
  • Understanding of and commitment to community development, and community capacity building
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and deal tactfully and effectively with people at all levels.

Desirable:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or proven experience in program and project management.
  • Experience working in Aboriginal communities and/or organisations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983.
