About the Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission:

The Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission (NTLAC) is an independent statutory authority established under the Legal Aid Act 1990. Our purpose is to ensure that people in the Northern Territory understand their legal rights and disadvantaged people have access to quality legal services, and to uphold a fair Northern Territory and national justice system.

About the role:

Under the supervision of the Darwin Practice Manager - Criminal Law, the Senior Crime Solicitor will provide high quality legal advice and representation for legal aid clients charged with criminal offences in a broad range of criminal law areas.

About you:

You are an experienced Senior Crime Solicitor with high level knowledge and experience in criminal law practice and procedures, including well developed advocacy skills.

You have a minimum of 3 years post-admission experience in criminal law practice, including the conduct of contested matters and have demonstrated ability to deliver high quality complex legal advice, assistance and representation in a range of criminal law matters and undertake related advocacy, policy and law reform work.

Crucial in your success in this role is your high level interpersonal and communication and negotiation skills, and demonstrated ability to liaise and communicate effectively with staff, external stakeholders and clients with complex needs and from diverse backgrounds
